in·spi·ra·tion

/ˌinspəˈrāSH(ə)n/

From “inspirare” in Latin. Related to inhalation. Perhaps, taking something outside of ourselves, a moment, a breath, God, and in us, it becomes something ours that we bring forth to the world.

Some of the ideas and people that have recently inspired me:

Image from NASA as pictured in Deep Sky
  • Movie: Deep Sky: The vastness of the universe puts everything into perspective. The images captured through the lense of the Webb telescope, and the creation of the telescope itself, are powerful reminders that we are all one humanity in the vastness of space.

  • Poem: “There is my body, in it an ocean, all the creation, all the universes, all the galaxies are lost in it”. Rumi

  • Book: Blossoms and Bones by Kim Krans: A journey into feeling through art as a way to heal deep wounds. Mesmerizing.

  • People: Patricial Lopez’s wisdom an creativity never ceases to amaze. Elena Brower: her presence inspires me to be more present.

Short Story Inspired by Coaching

I look up at the sky, a steel gray canvas with a crescent moon that appears unusual. Instead of emitting bright light, it casts a shadow. The landscape mirrors this grayness, with dunes of ash stretching to the horizon. There’s no light here and therefore no color. The land is all shades of gray, except for me. I am a specter, not of flesh and bones, but translucent in bright hues of orange and red.

Roaming in this barren place I can’t help but feel that the land here has been scorched. Shadows on the ground stir fear in me, yet I can see that they fear me, too. Whispering to myself, I wonder, "Could I have been part of this scorching?"

I don’t understand my purpose in this land, what I’m supposed to do there, what direction I should go in, or what action I should take. I think out loud: “Do I even belong here? I need help”. Suddenly, a pearlescent path materializes, slender and winding, stretching into the distance. A rolling chair sweeps me off my feet, accelerating along the path. It starts to roll faster and faster. Fear contorts my face as my heart races. A reassuring voice says, "Don't be scared. Do you trust me?" I reply, "No. I don't even know you."

The chair's speed intensifies, the wind pressing against my face, until it halts abruptly at a precipice. Beyond lies the vast expanse of space, filled with stars and galaxies. As the chair nudges me towards the edge, I hesitate. The voice urges, "Just trust." With a resolved "Okay, I'll try," I relax.

Suddenly, I'm floating into space, flesh and bone once more, no longer a spectral form. I float by dots of light that are pink and purple, yellow and white - “They are stars and galaxies!” I say to myself with awe. It’s peaceful in the silence of space, and I relax even more. Gently, very gently I descend onto a planet, and land in a lush garden filled with light. I approach one of the lush green plants, and as I do, it glows a soft yellow. As I touch a leaf, more sprout forth. At this moment, I realize I've arrived in a land of possibility.
